This an absolutely adorable design for a PLAID coaster that you can use with plain, non patterned material!  I looked for grey and white plaid material for weeks until I decided that I just needed to digitize the plaid myself to match the new paint job in my kitchen ;-).  So here is a design for a Plaid Circle Coaster for your 4x4 hoops that you can use with vinyl or felt!

Here are the simple construction steps:

  • Hoop your stabilizer - use tearaway or cutaway.
  • Float a piece of felt or vinyl or other non-fraying material on top of your hoop and run the plaid stitching as well as the satin border.
  • Float a second piece of material on the back of your hoop (like felt) and run the finishing stitch, which seals all the back side stitching in.
  • That's it! Remove from your hoop and trim around the finishing stitch and enjoy your new PLAID coaster!

You could also use this as the background material with a monogram or as a patch as well! Lots of options - so go make your own plaid!
